Well, this is why I have no excuse. Welcome to my new (to me) Aussie monster.
Now, onto my excuses.
I had long overdue shoulder surgery 3 days before Christmas. This is great for doing stuff eventually, but bad for doing stuff for awhile. I missed the good snows that we got, was in a sling the whole time.
I sold the GTO and bought this mint ‘09 G8 GT about a month ago. We found out we have our first kid on the way and the logical progression wasto jump to the bigger Holden muscle car. I also realized that a baby seat doesn’t go in and out of a GTO very well, plus it had quite a few miles under its belt and I had the opportunity to upgrade.
Short version for those 2 people still unaware. G8 GT has the 6.0L/364cu L76 V8, which is basically just an LS2 with part time cylinder deactivation and a slight underbore. 362hp / 375tq. Ish. 6 Speed Automatic. Yes, automatic. The GXP’s with the 6.2 LS3 and 6 Speed manual are still selling for full retail. To rich for my blood. Plus a big muscled bruiser is ok in automatic, despite the argument going on in the comments.
How is it? I love the styling, the interior is that same Aussie high/low bro combination and it is very quiet and comfortable. I’ve equated it to an AMG on a beach vacation. The same muscle and quality, but it’s in board shorts and flip flops instead of a 3-piece suit.
I already have new exhaust options picked out, as it is very muted at stock.
Handling is good, but just vaguely numb. Makes for a great highway cruiser but leaves a little to be desired on a fun road. Certainly wants to be steered with the right foot.
I think it will serve me very very well, and rest assured I’ll get up to some shenanigans soon.

Very nice! I’ve been waiting on these to depreciate enough to upgrade from a Tahoe. I had a Bonnie GXP (V8), and loved that car on the open road, but loathed the FWD around town or under hard driving. Alas, I had to trade that in so the wife could have a more dependable car (a boring Buick... that she loves).

Thanks, looking forward to how cheap the G8 will be compared to the kid!

G8's have held their value way better than they should have. They incline me to recommend buying a Chevy SS as they’ll likely retain value similarly.

I have a 7 month old and so far he’s cost me more than what my A4 is even worth. But I wouldn’t trade it for the world.

Still saddens me to think of what Pontiac might have been. Very cool car though I love Aussie Pontiacs
